Translation Case Studies
Translating a child custody document bundle to a tight deadline
A lawyer engaged AO Translation to translate a complete set of Chinese-language materials into English for a child custody dispute. The bundle included 1,503 pages of WeChat screenshots, bank statements from three banks, a written statement from the client’s husband, recorded conversations and numerous medical reports.
Many of the conversations involved arguments, so we spent considerable time reviewing their context during translation. The client supplied the materials on a Friday and needed the translations by the following Wednesday. AO Translation delivered the completed translations to the lawyer before the deadline.
Translating a complete document set for an inheritance dispute
A lawyer engaged AO Translation to translate a client’s complete set of Chinese-language materials into English for an inheritance dispute. The material included property and vehicle contracts, company ownership and shareholding records, authorisation paperwork, emails, WeChat conversations, receipts, voice recordings and handwritten notes.
A particular challenge was differences in the client’s name across the records. The client supplied an earlier marriage certificate as supporting documentation. AO Translation also provided a translator’s affidavit for the translations.
Handwritten Chinese birth certificate for an Australian passport
In this case, a customer needed an English translation of an older Chinese birth certificate for an Australian passport application. Most entries were handwritten. We checked the handwritten entries and the child's and both parents' names with the customer and used the English spelling on the Hong Kong father's passport. We delivered the completed PDF translation in 12 hours. The customer successfully lodged the passport application the next day.

Six-page Hukou and supporting documents for a PR application
In this case, a customer preparing a permanent residence application needed translations of a six-page Chinese household register (Hukou), identity card, certificate of no criminal record and proof of family relationship. The Hukou included household transfer records and handwritten entries, which we checked individually before completing the translation. We sent the completed PDF translations to the customer that same day.
