FAQ

This page answers common questions about AO Translation’s NAATI certified translation services, including supported documents, pricing, turnaround times, translator credentials, delivery options and online ordering.

Requirements can differ between government departments, universities, courts, licensing authorities and other receiving organisations. Before ordering, check the current requirements of the organisation receiving your documents.

What translation services do you provide?

We provide NAATI certified translations for documents commonly used in Australia, including:

– Driver licences
– Birth certificates
– Marriage and divorce certificates
– Identity documents
– Household registration documents
– Police clearances and criminal record certificates
– Academic certificates, degrees and transcripts
– Visa and migration documents
– Legal and court documents
– Selected business and company documents

Available language directions depend on the document and the qualifications held by the assigned translator. If your language or document is not listed in our online shop, send us a copy for confirmation and a quote.

What is a NAATI certified translation?

A NAATI certified translation is completed by a translator who holds the relevant NAATI credential for the required language direction.

The translation normally includes the translator’s certification statement, name, NAATI practitioner number and other applicable certification details.

NAATI certifies translators and interpreters. It does not approve individual visa, licence, university or government applications. Final acceptance of a translation is determined by the organisation receiving the document.

How can I check a translator’s NAATI credential?

NAATI credentials can be checked through the official [NAATI Online Directory](https://directory.naati.com.au/).

The required credential and language direction may depend on the source language, target language and intended use of the document.

## Will my translation be accepted by every Australian organisation?

NAATI certified translations are commonly requested for Australian visa, migration, education, licensing, legal and government purposes. However, requirements vary between organisations and services.

Some organisations may request:

– A particular language direction
– A certified copy of the original document
– A paper translation
– An electronic translation
– Translation of stamps, seals or information on the reverse side
– Additional identity or supporting documents

Please confirm the latest requirements with the receiving organisation before ordering. AO Translation cannot guarantee the outcome of an application or the acceptance of a document by every organisation.

How much does a NAATI translation cost?

Prices depend on:

– Document type
– Language pair and translation direction
– Number of pages
– Word count
– Legibility and formatting
– Handwritten or non-standard content
– Required turnaround time
– Electronic or printed delivery

Some common documents have a listed price in our online shop. Complex, handwritten or multi-page documents may require an individual quote.

The final price is confirmed after the document has been reviewed. Any additional work or delivery fees should be confirmed before translation begins.

Can I get a free quote?

Yes. You can submit a clear copy of your document through our quote form.

Please include:

– The source and target languages
– The intended use of the translation
– Your required date
– Whether you need an electronic copy, printed copy or both
– Any instructions supplied by the receiving organisation

We will review the document and confirm the available service, price and estimated turnaround time.

How long does translation take?

Turnaround depends on the document, language pair, translator availability and current workload.

Many common certificates and identity documents can be completed within approximately 12–48 hours after the order and document quality have been confirmed. Complex, lengthy or handwritten documents may take longer.

The turnaround period starts after we have received:

– A clear and complete copy of the document
– All required instructions
– Confirmation of the service
– Successful payment, where applicable

A delivery estimate is not a guarantee where the document is incomplete, unclear or requires additional checking.

Do you offer urgent translation?

Urgent service may be available for selected documents and languages.

Contact us before ordering if you have a deadline. We will confirm whether the requested turnaround is available and whether an urgent-service fee applies.

Do not assume an urgent deadline can be met until it has been confirmed.

How do I order a translation online?

For a listed service:

1. Open the relevant product page.
2. Select the required options.
3. Upload a clear copy of every relevant page.
4. Enter your contact and delivery details.
5. Review the order information.
6. Complete payment.
7. Check your email for the order confirmation.

If your document is not listed, request a quote before making payment.

 What should I upload?

Upload a clear colour scan or photograph of the complete document.

Make sure that:

– All text is readable
– All four edges are visible
– Stamps, seals and signatures are included
– The image is not blurred or affected by glare
– The front and reverse sides are supplied where relevant
– Every page requiring translation is included

We may request a clearer or more complete copy before starting the translation.

Can I send a photograph taken with my phone?

Yes, provided the photograph is clear, complete and readable.

Place the document on a flat surface, use even lighting and avoid shadows or reflections. Do not crop out document numbers, stamps, seals, signatures or page edges.

Do you need the original document?

A digital copy is sufficient for many translation orders. However, the organisation receiving the translation may separately require you to present the original document or a certified copy.

Check this requirement directly with the receiving organisation.

Will you translate stamps, seals and handwritten notes?

Relevant stamps, seals, annotations and handwritten content should normally be included where they are legible and form part of the document.

Handwritten, damaged or difficult-to-read material may require additional time, clarification or fees. Content that cannot be read reliably may need to be marked as illegible.

How will I receive the completed translation?

Available delivery options may include:

– Electronic PDF by email
– Printed copy by standard post
– Express or tracked delivery, where selected and available

Electronic and printed delivery requirements vary between receiving organisations. Confirm which format you need before ordering.

Postal delivery times are separate from translation turnaround times and may be affected by the delivery provider.

Can I request corrections?

If you believe the translation contains an error, contact us promptly and identify the relevant text.

A correction to a translation error is different from:

– Adding information that was not visible in the original file
– Replacing the source document after translation
– Changing names to a preferred spelling not supported by the document
– Adding newly issued pages
– Changing the required language direction or intended service

Changes caused by new documents or new instructions may require an additional fee.

How are personal documents handled?

Documents are used to assess and complete the requested translation service. Customers should upload files only through the available order, quote or contact channels and review the website’s Privacy Policy before submitting personal information.

Avoid sending unnecessary identity or financial information that is unrelated to the translation.

## Can you advise me about visas, licensing or legal matters?

We can explain the translation service and the information needed to prepare a translation. We do not provide migration, legal, licensing or government application advice unless that service is separately stated and provided by a qualified professional.

For application requirements, contact the relevant government department, licensing authority, educational institution, court or professional adviser.

Still have a question?

If your document, language or intended use is not covered above, send us a clear copy and tell us:

– What the document is
– Which language it is written in
– Which language you require
– Where you intend to submit it
– Your deadline
– Your preferred delivery format

We can then confirm the appropriate service, price and estimated turnaround time before you order.
