When can this translation be used?

A Chinese marriage-certificate translation can support partner-visa relationship evidence or a documented name change for citizenship.

  • Partner visa 820: married applicants provide a marriage certificate or other evidence that the marriage is valid in Australia, alongside other required relationship evidence. The translation conveys the certificate’s content; it does not determine marriage validity or visa eligibility. Department of Home Affairs Partner visa 820 requirements.
  • Australian citizenship by conferral: when the marriage certificate records a relevant name change, it can support the link between names. Use the official certificate required by the guidance; marriage alone does not establish a name change. Department of Home Affairs citizenship guidance, section 3.

What does one order quantity cover?

One quantity covers the Chinese-to-English translation of one physical Mainland Chinese marriage-certificate booklet. Choose quantity 1 if only one booklet needs translation. Choose quantity 2 only if the receiving organisation requires both spouses’ separate booklets; do not order two automatically merely because two were issued. Check its document list before selecting a quantity.

Paper copies and non-standard booklets

A paper copy can be arranged separately if required. Complex or unclear documents, handwriting, an older format or unusual extra pages may need confirmation before work begins.

How to order and what to provide

Select Standard (A$45 per booklet) or Priority (A$72 per booklet, including a 60% surcharge of A$27), set the quantity using the booklet rule above, and provide the complete booklet images and payment.

Provide clear, complete photos or scans of every page to be translated, including the cover and information, registration, seal, amendment or remarks pages. Show every edge; avoid glare, blur, cropping and fingers over text.

If either spouse already uses a particular English name spelling in a passport, visa, earlier translation or Australian record, supply that spelling with the order when consistency matters. The source document remains the basis of the translation.

Delivery time and format

  • Standard: usually about 12 hours for a clear standard document, delivered as a PDF by email.
  • Priority: PDF by email within 1 hour. Available 24/7; the hour starts once payment and all clear, complete documents have been received. Postal delivery and separately arranged additional services are not included in the 1-hour timeframe.

We provide online Chinese marriage certificate translation for customers across Australia, including Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide. Upload your documents online and receive your translated PDF by email.

Australian divorce affidavit: additional A$165

AO provides an Affidavit – Translation of Marriage Certificate for an additional A$165, separate from the standard A$45 translation. Contact AO before ordering to arrange both; the standard translation does not include the affidavit.

Notarisation, legalisation and Apostille

Notarisation, legalisation and an Apostille are not included in this translation service. These are separate processes; arrange them only if the receiving organisation requires them, and ask for its written instructions first.

Before you order

For family-visa, divorce, name-change and certification explanations, read the Chinese marriage certificate translation guide for Australia. The receiving organisation controls its current document, certification, format and acceptance requirements.
