What does a Hukou show?

A Hukou records names, ID number, household composition, relationship to the household head, date and place of birth, marital status, former names, native place, registered address, issuing authority, registration dates and changes. Translation neither creates a new certificate nor adds missing relationships.

Which Australian applications can use a Hukou translation?

Use relevant Hukou pages as requested identity, birth, family or registration evidence; follow the receiving organisation’s page and format requirements.

Australian visa, PR, parent or child applications: include requested family-member records that show the relationship.
Partner 820: a family book showing both parents’ names is an identity and birth-document alternative if no birth certificate is available; it does not by itself prove the partner relationship. Citizenship by conferral: family or household registration is listed as alternative birth evidence if a full birth certificate cannot be provided; for children 15 or under, it must show parents’ details. Department of Home Affairs citizenship evidence guidance, sections 2 and 5.
Schools, courts, lawyers, banks and government departments: provide a translation when they request household or family information, following their evidence and copy-format requirements.

Which pages should I provide?

Supply the original pages needed for your application, including enough family records to show any claimed parent, spouse or child relationship. Your own page may suffice only when the receiving organisation requests its identity details alone. Relevant pages can include:

Book cover; first or household-information page; household-head page; applicant’s page.
Spouse, parents’ or children’s pages when those relationships must be shown.
Former-name, name-change, marital-status, address-transfer or registration-change pages, including household transfers; relevant stamp, note or back pages.

Count original pages for quantity, excluding translated output or unrelated family pages. If names need to match a passport, type the spelling in the order notes; do not upload a passport solely for spelling. Send uncropped, readable pages showing dates, names, numbers, relationships, addresses, stamps and notes without glare or blur. Frequently asked questions

Do I need to send the original booklet?

The original Hukou booklet is usually unnecessary for translation. Clear scans or photos suffice; we may request a clearer page. Follow separate original or certified-copy requirements.

Does the NAATI translation expire?

A Hukou translation usually has no fixed expiry date. Check the receiving organisation’s document-recency rules; a reissued Hukou or changed family, marital-status or address details may require an updated translation.
